What the 4chan /vrg/ thread has said about VR games, 2016-07-17 to 2026-10-29, sorted out of 1,551,587 archived posts by a language model. Like Steam reviews, but every review is a post from the thread.
How this works and its caveats ↓
How this works
- Source. Every post in the /vrg/ archive (archive.vrg.party), the same data as the search site. Each post links back to its thread there.
- Step 1, finding the game. A language model (Claude Haiku) reads the threads in order and notes every VR game each post refers to, including abbreviations, nicknames, DLC, and replies that only say "it" about a game named in the post they answer.
- Step 2, sorting the post. For each post that says something about a game, the model decides whether it is a take on the game as a whole, a feature comment or mention (one weapon, mode, update or bug; a passing recommendation; a question), a headset, streaming or PC issue, or not an evaluation (lobby and hosting posts, session chatter, show-and-tell, jokes). Those are left out of these pages. It also gives a −2…+2 reading of the poster's view and a 0–3 "how informative" score used by the most helpful sort.
- Calibration. Step 2 was tuned with about 150 posts sorted by hand. On hand-sorted posts it had not seen, it put about 3 in 4 posts in the same group as the hand sorting, and about 4 in 5 when only telling takes apart from everything else. A second model spot-checked the published takes: about 9 in 10 were real takes, and the 👍/👎 direction was fair in all of those.
- Verdicts use Steam's wording and thresholds, but count only takes on the whole game. Feature comments are counted separately.
Caveats
- It is a model's reading, and it makes mistakes: wrong game, a joke or bait read as a sincere take, sarcasm missed. Read the post, not the badge.
- Posts are quoted as written on 4chan, slurs and all. Only IP addresses, Discord invites and Steam profile links are masked.
- Counts are posts, not people. The thread is anonymous, so one anon arguing all night counts many times.
- /vrg/ is contrarian and a few multiplayer games dominate the conversation. A "Mixed" here is not a bad score by Steam standards.
- Nobody edits individual entries by hand; corrections go into the instructions and examples the model works from.
- This is a beta snapshot of the archive as of 2026-10-29, built once. It is not updated yet.
Privacy and takedowns
- Only what was posted publicly to 4chan is shown, with no names or tripcodes. Posts known to have been deleted are excluded. IP addresses, Discord invites and Steam profile links inside posts are masked.
- To have a post removed, email [email protected] with its post number (No.123456789). Removals use the same list as the archive and apply at the next build.
Feedback
Is this useful? Wrong verdicts, games that should be merged or split, missing posts: say so in the thread or by email. This is an experiment.
